T. A. Powell, Technical Director and Playwright-in-Residence
T. A. Powell is the Program Specialist for Athens Creative Theatre and has been at the helm of this ACC government sponsored theatrical program for almost two decades. Her background —as a published playwright, novelist, lighting and set designer, along with decades of professional stage management and directorial skills—speaks to her participation in the Athens theatre community for almost 30 years. This kind of valued tenure and leadership skills enables her to bring an excellence to both main stage, second stage, and the varied programming ACT presents throughout the year. As executive managing and artistic director, she has developed and produced countless programs and productions from main stage musicals to Improvisational seminars, to summer theatre performance camps, and provided both written and directed competition pieces for GTC. Powell has also provided workshop experiences in acting, Improv, Creative Writing and set design for both SETC and GRPA.
As a major state award winner for innovative programming through the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) in several categories, including therapeutic for her Monologues and More for the Cognitively Challenged, TEEN ENCORE Theatre Practicum programs, as well as the Senior Reader’s Theatre Program for our older citizenry, Powell continues to engage Athens’ citizenry with new programs such as the Chautauqua style Oral History Reenactment Master Class youth camps. Her various plays can be purchased through both Heuer Publications and Green Room Publications. Powell’s second career involves her ability as a psychic medium detective and her a storied TRUE CRIME series is published through Brownstone Literary Works, LLC. All True Crime Investigative Memoirs and Historical Fiction novels are showcased on Amazon. Powell studied Investigative Forensics at UMUC and has both a website and a podcast www.dialoguewiththedead.com and is a regular guest podcaster for DARK OUTPOST.
